Making this Website
I think the hardest part about hobbies is actually following through with them and feeling like they need to have a purpose to be useful. Randomly today (11/24/25), I had the urge to make a website and I just did it. Do I have research work and homework to do? Obviously, that is why I am doing this.
How to Replicate the Hobby
I am a Computer Science student so learning to code was not too bad. It is mainly HTML and CSS which are easy to learn if you know other languages. If you don't, CODEX is a fun website with games that teach you code.
I am using Neocities to make the website. It is easy to use and free. Index.html is you main/starting page. You can add other pages and link to the through buttons as you go as long as they have the .html tag. You can upload images and gifs to your dashboard (the same place index.html is). CSS usually helps with details/style added to the basic layout provided by HTML.
I think this will be a fun hobby to write more about things I am interested in and get me into new ideas. I am tired of the common hobbies like painting and reading (while I can enjoy both and mean no offense to people who want to stick to those). I am just at a point where I need something new in my life.
Things you can do with a website:
- Journal: creating a personal blog or digital diary can be a fun way to get your thoughts out.
- Create a community: I am still working of my "Your Thoughts" page, but I think connecting with people online and forming a community can be a wonderful thing. Think about adding a page like that to your website.
- Sharing Knowledge: This could be a recipe, code, a game, your thoughts, a fun fact, or even what shows you like and why.
- Portfolio/Resume: If you are applying to jobs (which in this economy I think most of us are) a website can be a great way to show you have other skills and showcase your work.
- Showing Who You Are: With links to your other websites, Youtube accounts, LinkedIn, etc. you can make the website about you so people can access more to follow you easily.
- Just for Fun: You can do anything with a website. Maybe you just miss the old internet and want to bring a little back or you want to consider it like an art project.
I hope this gives you inspiration if you are looking for a new hobby and want to try.
Updates Pending
Here I will write about how it is going in maybe a week or so and give any other important updates. I am hoping to set this so I can add it to past/ongoing projects on the left to make room for new hobbies.
